Discover The Best Whey Protein For Women
There are many options out there when it comes to finding a whey protein. But the list narrows drastically when you are looking for high quality whey protein and even more if you are looking for the best whey protein for women.
As a rule of thumb, we research as much as we can about all different brands and types of whey protein and only suggest the ones that we use ourselves.
So first off, let me explain what differentiates a premium whey protein from an inferior whey protein because it is easy to get confused with the amount of false marketing that these products do.
Most whey proteins that you find at your local supermarket and even health food store are little more than processed junk food packaged as a healthy product.
And when you are looking for the best whey protein for women you can expect to pay a little more but I’m about to explain to you why it is worth paying a few extra bucks.
When you get a premium quality whey protein the differences in nutritional benefit makes it so much better than a commercial brand whey that they can almost not even be compared. We have several criteria for determining the best whey protein for women which I will explain below.
First, to get the most out of your whey protein you should absolutely look for grass fed whey protein. This simply means that the milk that they whey is sourced from is derived from cows that are fed a natural grass diet and allowed to feed on open pastures. This may sound like common sense but modern farming practices have degenerated into most cows being confined to feedlots and fed grains, corn, and soy which were never meant to be part of their diet. I would say about 99% of whey proteins out there are from grain fed feedlot cows.
Grass fed cows milk is superior in many ways including immune boosting nutrients, antioxidant levels, CLA levels which helps to build lean muscle and burn fat, optimum omega 3 to omega 6 ratios (grain fed cows produce about 10-20 times omega 6 amino acids which is far too much and is highly inflammatory in your body whereas grass fed cows have the correct natural ratio), and there are no pesticides or growth hormones used in grass fed cows.
Another factor that is vitally important is the way that the protein is processed. Most whey proteins out there are high heat processed which effectively damages and/or kills all of the inherent nutrients. What you want to find is “undenatured” grass fed whey protein. This means that the whey is cold-processed in a way that preserves each and every fragile nutrient and enzyme so you get the most nutrient dense protein as possible.
Ok, so now we have narrowed our list down to undenatured, grass fed whey protein and we are on the right path but there is still more to know.
Whey proteins fall into two general categories: isolates and concentrates. So which one makes for the best whey protein for women? Well my health philosophy is that you should always choose natural healthy whole foods as much as possible. And whey concentrates fall into that category when compared to isolates. Whey isolates generally use more processing and strip more of the whole food nutrients from the protein whereas whey concentrates maintain the complete spectrum of benefits from the protein.
For example, many people falsely believe that they should find a protein with zero fat. The problem with this is that the your body actually craves healthy fats such as the fats found in grass fed milk. In fact, eating healthy saturated fats will in turn help you to lose weight faster. Whey concentrates still have some of the healthy fats intact which is where a lot of the amino acids are found so don’t choose a whey protein that contains zero fat because you are cheating yourself out of a lot of healthy benefits.
A good analogy is that whey protein isolates are like fruit juice and whey concentrates are like eating the whole fruit. Hopefully you know that eating whole fruit is far superior to fruit juice because your body cannot effectively process that much fruit juice and natural sugar by itself. However, when you eat a whole fruit you are eating it in it’s natural state and the fiber from the fruit allows your body to digest it much easier and use more of the vitamins and nutrient.
Whey concentrates are similar in that they are proteins that are closer to their natural state and your body can therefore absorb much more of it so I urge you to choose a whey protein concentrate.
Another factor is how the protein is sweetened. If your goal is weight loss then you want to stay as far away from refined sugars and artificial sweeteners as possible. The best whey proteins are naturally sweetened with stevia as this is far superior.
So to recap what is the best whey protein for women?
- Grass fed
- Undenatured
- Naturally sweetened with stevia
- Whey concentrate not isolate

Here is a recipe that I make almost every day that is a great whey protein smoothie recipe that promotes weight loss:
- Organic kale
- Organic spinach
- Organic broccoli
- 1/2 organic carrot
- 1 slice of organic lemon or lime (with the rind if you like a little extra kick)
- 2 thin slices of fresh ginger root (I get mine at Whole Foods)
- Ice
- Water
- Grass fed raw whey protein
This is a great recipe and is delicious. If you do not eat a lot of vegetables then it may take a week or so for your tastebuds to adapt to eating healthy but these are foods that your body nutritionally craves and you will develop a taste for them…trust me!
